November 22, 2005
Present: Don C., Steve P., Anita M., Pat L.-C., Judy L., Valerie H., Junior C., Ben H., Fr. William Hammelman and Santos G.
The meeting minutes were reviewed from the October meeting and accepted.
Presentation - Linda Struck from St. Edwards Parish spoke this evening on “Catholics Can Come Home Again” program. St. Edwards’s parish has been using this program which is based on the book Catholics Can Come Home Again by Carrie Kemp for three years. The program is a six week series that runs in April and at Advent. Linda’s group has six team members and it is recommended that they are people who are knowledgeable in their teachings and open minded. Advertising consists of placing adds in many newspapers, information on a reader board, and an announcement at the Easter Vigil. During the sessions, there are materials available for those who would like further information as well as a book While you were Gone. After the six week session, the team leaders follow up with a thank you that includes names and contact information. They also review after each session to discuss what things are working well and what isn’t. St. Edwards Parish has had good success with this program and plans to continue using it.
New Member Dinner - New members to our parish were sent an invitation and a follow up phone call inviting them to the dinner. There were many people who attended and it was a very successful evening.
Turkey Dinner - At the annual Turkey Dinner this year there were 1000 people served and $7900 in profit from the event. There were some concerns regarding serving wine at the dinner as some felt that this was not appropriate. Also, there were concerns as to the communication between the individuals that were responsible for the wine and the Turkey Dinner Committee. Next year will be the 90th Turkey Dinner and Fr. William would like to start some long term planning to do something special for that year.
Generations of Faith - Some of the team members met last week and brainstormed. Fr. William would like to consider using this program as a primary curriculum starting with an emphasis on either Lent or Reconciliation. The next training session will be held January 15, 2006.
Religious Education-Weekly meetings are being held. There was a youth rally last weekend which the jr. high group attended.
Advent Fair - The advent fair will be held this weekend and Sister Rocío has been working very hard preparing for this event.
Nursery - Betty Z. said that she would be willing to do babysitting occasionally. There will be an announcement in the bulletin this Sunday and next. So far no one has called or inquired matter after an announcement that was made at mass. A meeting needs to be set up to discuss the details further.
Liturgical Arts - The Liturgical Arts Committee met on November 15th and came up with some priorities for the church renovation. Some of the priorities included; updating the electrical system, lighting, painting, leveling the floor under the altar, how to hang banners, the location of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and the placement of a crucifix. The electrical should be completed first before any painting takes place. The committee will meet again in December.
Next Meeting will be January 24, 2006
Respectfully yours,
Chris T.
