Stanley
Stanley and her sister Ollie were found on the ground and brought to ORC when they were about one week old. Great-horned owls build notoriously bad nests, and babies often fall out of them.
Stanley was almost dead by the time she was found, but with good nutrition,
splints on her wings and braces on her legs, she recovered and grew up to
be a healthy owl. She could not be released to the wild because one wing
did not heal properly.
Ollie, being nearly blind, stayed at the raptor center as well and the two were nearly inseparable for most of their lives. Sadly, Ollie died this past spring after complications from thyroid medication. To read a tribute to Ollie written by our chief rehabilitator, read our newsletter, the Raptor Advocate.
Stanley is a hard working education bird and has taught hundreds of school children the importance of protecting our wildlife. To learn more about great horned owls, click "learn more..." below.
