Willamette Valley Alternatives Futures This project's purpose is to estimate the long-term consequences of development in the Willamette Valley on farm & forets production, and on the cost of urban services. OAEF is comparing the impacts of two alternatives for development patterns into the year 2050. One of the patterns is based on historical trends the development. The other assumes more compact development patterns. Growth in population and urbanization have direct and indirect impacts on farm and forest production, and on the costs of providing public services. Research is being conducted for the project by: ECONorthwest, Fregonese/Calthorpe, Cogan Owens Cogan, OSU, USFS, and Strong & Associates. OAEF's goal is to draw informed conclusions about how population growth distribution and its economic impacts on farm and forest productivity, and the cost of municipal services. Final reports from this research should be available in the Fall of 2000.
