Power plant might come to Turner

by Bryce P.

The city of Turner is debating on whether to allow a power plant to come to Turner. After talking to the mayor of Turner, Steve Littrell, I came to the conclusion that the city has not yet decided on building the plant. He said that if the power plant is built it will be located off Wipper Road. No houses will have to be torn down because the power company has bought the land where the plant will be built.

The power plant will genarate power by taking in natural gas and burning it to make electricity. The mayor said the enviornment may be affected, but not the surrounding location. If the plant gets built, it will create 350 jobs for two years while in construction. The plant would only require three people to run it. By putting the plant in the city, Turner would receive $125,000 a year for community projects. The city will also receive 1 million dollars in tax revenue. The Mayor said that none of this money would be given to the Cascade School District, because they have their own tax base and would receive about the same amount of tax revenue as the city.

The mayor then informed me that he really enjoyed his job but it sometimes gets very hectic.
