Our Mission
Oregon Raptor Center
The
mission of Oregon Raptor Center is to protect birds of prey and their environment
through:
-
Rehabilitation: Caring for sick, injured, or orphaned birds of
prey and returning them to the wild (ORC's raptor rehabilitation activities
are temporarily reduced until we have the financial and volunteer support
needed for the program).
-
Public education: Offering educational programs and raptor
rehabilitation clinics to teach others about the importance of birds of prey.
A fee is charged to help support raptor care programs.
-
Conservation: Supporting legislation and working with state and
federal wildlife agencies to protect birds of prey and preserve their
habitat.
-
Research: Researching ways to improve habitat, rehabilitation
techniques, and increase raptor populations.
Accomplishments: Since starting in Salem, Oregon in
1989, ORC has cared for over 700 birds of prey, 357 of which were successfully
released back to the wild. ORC has conducted over 317 educational programs
reaching over 55,000 people and has sponsored several raptor rehabilitation
clinics.
