Amarillo Texas Murder

Back in February of 1998, 17-year-old Dustin Camp was indicted for the murder of 19-year-old Brian Deneke. Camp was arrested on December 13th, 1997, and charged with running over Deneke. As reported by several sources, Camp was a member of the 'prep' group in Amarillo, and Deneke was a member of the 'punk' group in the same town. The preps generally wear button down polo shirts, and are mostly members of wealthy families in Amarillo. The punks, generally wear spikes, leather, and color their hair brightly. There has always been a lot of tension between the groups, for example, the punks claim that the preps throw things at them when they drive by. In December of 1997, after football season, the two groups met in a parking lot to fight. There were significantly more preps, but the punks showed up with baseball bats and chains. As the fight begain, Dustin Camp got into his car and started trying to run over punks. He hit one, tossing him over the car, then targeted Brian Deneke. He ran over him, backed up, ran over him again, dragging him around a while. Dustin camp was indicted, tried and convicted, of self defense. And received 10 years probation.

In an interview with Mrs. Camp, Dustin's mother, she said "We're proud of Dustin, he's always been taught to protect himself and his friends."

Many people in Amarillo are upset with the outcome of the trial.

The mayor of Amarillo is quoted as saying "We are upset about this trial, we don't want the world to think we are a hick town"

My Sardonic Thoughts

• Definition of Hick town: place where you must belong, where if you don't belong you get abused.
• To me, it seems like being murdered for wearing a leather spike collar, then having your murderer released would be the ultimate definition of a hick town.
• So, if you're not white, don't go to Amarillo, you might not come back.
• If you color your hair, don't go to Amarillo.
• Don't wear a leather jacket to Amarillo.
• If you're gay....
• If you're overweight...
• If you're poor...
• Maybe they'll change their tourist literature... "Give us your poor, your hungry, your weak... and we'll beat the crap out of them" or "Come to Amarillo, we're not a hick town, we just act like it"
• Since the town doesn't want to be called hick, maybe we should just call them by their name.... YELLOW

Retired Band Teacher Accused - (SPRINGFIELD OREGON) -- Police say a retired high school band teacher in Springfield is facing charges involving sex with two teenaged boys. The teacher, who is now 70-years-old is accused of soliciting the teenagers to perform sexual acts. He could face six-years in prison if convicted.
