Windshield Wipers

I live in Oregon, where we get a lot of rain, so I think about things like this alot... Have you ever noticed that the windshield wiper always seems to go bad right where you look through the window?

Why is that?

Well I think I've figured out why. See, the arc on your windshield that the wiper makes means that the part of the wiper blade at the bottom of the arc travels less of a distance than the part of the blade at the top of the arc. So, over time that part of the rubber travels, maybe, twice as far as the other part. And since most people's heads are close to the top of the arc, it seems that the blades always go bad exactly where you're trying to look.

So what can you do about it? Well, figure out how long your blades normally last, then when two thirds of their normal life is over, take them out and turn them around, so that the part that was at the top is now at the bottom, the blade should now last 50% longer.

Now, before you say you would never stoop that low, to try to get an extra 6 months out of a pair of wiper blades, ask yourself these questions....
